The Royal Castle sells its interior as several overlapping routes, which confuses a lot of first-time visitors. Here's the plain version: two routes cover the core state rooms (Royal and Museum), a combined ticket bundles them together (Castle Route), one adds a second building across the courtyard (Golden Ticket), one is that second building on its own (Palace Route). None of these are our invention — they mirror the castle's own published routes.
Royal Route vs Museum Route
The Royal Route covers the apartments of King Stanisław August — his state and private rooms, including the Great Assembly Hall, the Throne Room and the Canaletto Room. It's the more personal, residential half of the castle.
The Museum Route covers the Senators' Hall, where the Constitution of 3 May 1791 was signed, plus the Matejko paintings and the Lanckoroński Gallery with its two Rembrandts. It leans more toward the castle's political and museum history. Both are priced the same and both include the multilingual audioguide.
The Castle Route — Most Visitors' Choice
The Castle Route is simply the Royal and Museum routes combined into one timed entry, and it's what most first-time visitors book — you see the state rooms, the Canaletto Room, the Senators' Hall and the Lanckoroński Gallery in a single roughly two-hour visit, rather than choosing between them.
Unless you have a specific reason to want only half the castle, the Castle Route is the simplest, most complete option for a single visit.
The Golden Ticket and the Palace Route
The Golden Ticket is the Castle Route plus the Palace under the Tin Roof (Pałac pod Blachą) across the courtyard, including Prince Józef Poniatowski's reconstructed apartments. It's the best-value option if you have the extra 30–45 minutes and want to see everything in one trip.
The Palace Route is that same Palace under the Tin Roof sold on its own, for visitors who've already done the main castle on a previous trip, or who specifically want the Poniatowski apartments without the full state-rooms visit.
